Presentation abstract: Following a close encounter with the issue of lost writes in a production system the author would like to share the lessons learned. In particular what can be done to protect our databases against lost writes, how can Data Guard be of help and some open points that the author believes need close attention in high availability systems.

Speaker biography:  Luca Canali is a Senior DBA for CERN in Geneva with 13+ years of experience using Oracle products in the sectors of research, finance and telecoms. Since 2005 he has been working at the start-up and support operations of the database services for physics at CERN. Luca has presented at Oracle User Groups conferences in the recent past on the topics of ASM internals, RAC, DB storage performance, Oracle compression, ACFS and Data life cycle management, Active Data Guard.
